Assign resources (form)

Click Project management and accounting > Common > Projects > All projects. Select or open a project. On the Action Pane, on the Plan tab, in the Activities group, click Assign resources.
Use this form to search for workers who meet the requirements for a project, and to book available workers on the project.
Note
To access all the controls in this form, you must first enter basic project details in the Scheduling field group on the Scheduling and resource assignment FastTab in the Projects form.

Navigating the form
The following tables provide descriptions for the controls in this form.
General section
This section of the form displays information about the selected project or activity, such as the start date and end date for the project or activity, the duration in days, and the total effort in hours that is required to finish the project or activity.
Fields

Project/Activity ID |
The unique identifier for the project or activity that you are scheduling. |
Schedule status |
A value that indicates the scheduling status of the project or activity. |
Project/Activity name |
The name of the project or activity for which to schedule workers. |
Remaining effort in hours |
The total remaining number of effort hours for which resources must be assigned in order for the project to be fully scheduled. |
Start date |
The date that the project or activity is scheduled to start. |
End date |
The date that the project or activity is scheduled to end. |
Hard-booked hours |
The number of hours for which resources have been hard-booked for the project or activity. |
Soft-booked hours |
The number of hours for which resources have been soft-booked for the project or activity. |
Resource search criteria FastTab
Note
This control is available only if Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2 or AX 2012 R3 is installed.
This FastTab provides controls that you can use to specify the criteria that are used to locate workers for the project. You can also specify which competencies are the most important for the project roles and initiate the search for workers.

Skill |
Select the identifier for the type of skill that is required for a worker who is assigned to the project or activity. For example, a worker may have to speak specific languages or have knowledge of specific software programs. |
Description |
The description of the criterion that is selected in the Skill field. |
Required |
Select this check box if the worker must meet the selected requirement to be included in the search results for workers who are qualified to work on the project or activity. |
Priority |
Select the level of importance that the requirement has to the project or activity. Values range from None to 6. None indicates no importance6 indicates the highest importance. |
Project ID |
Select a project on which the worker has experience. Note If you have already selected a project contract, the project list includes only those projects that are associated with the selected contract. |
Role |
For the project that you selected in the Project ID field, select the role for which to locate workers in the current search for resources. |
Certificate type |
Select the type of certification, such as a Microsoft certificate or other professional certification, that is required for a worker who is assigned to the project or activity. |
Education |
Select the type of education that is required for a worker who is assigned to the project or activity. |
Attribute group |
Select the attribute group that includes the additional skills that are required for a worker who is assigned to the project or activity. |
Attribute ID |
For the attribute group that you selected, select the identifier of the attribute that is required for a worker who is assigned to the project or activity. |
Attribute name |
The name of the attribute that you selected in the Attribute ID field. |
Skills |
Select the level of importance that the skill requirement has to the project or activity. |
Project experience |
Select the level of importance that the requirement for project experience has to the project or activity. |
Certifications |
Select the level of importance that the certification requirement has to the project or activity. |
Education |
Select the level of importance that the education requirement has to the project or activity. |
Other worker attributes |
Select the level of importance that the requirement for additional attributes has to the project or activity. These additional attributes are also known as free-form attributes. |
Resources FastTab
On the Resources FastTab, the Best resource matches grid displays a list of workers who match the availability and competencies that are defined on the Resource search criteria FastTab. The workers are displayed in the following order:
Workers whose qualifications match all the requirements that are specified for the project, and who are not assigned to any other projects
Note
If two workers have the same skill set, they are displayed in order of availability. This rule applies to all worker-to-project matches.
Workers whose qualifications match some of the requirements that are specified for the project
Workers whose skill sets do not match any of the requirements that are specified for the project
Also on the Resources FastTab, the Resource assignment details for: grid displays the availability status of the worker who is selected in the Best resource matches grid. You can assign the worker to a project, release the worker from a project, or transfer the worker’s commitment bookings using the buttons above this grid.
In Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 and Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Feature Pack only, you can review the worker’s availability to work on a project by checking the colors that are assigned to individual activity lines. Set up the colors for worker availability and commitments on the Scheduling tab in the Project management and accounting parameters form. Each color is related to a worker’s availability and commitments.

Select an assignment type to assign the worker to a project. The following options are available:

Select an assignment type to release the worker from assignment to a project. The following options are available:

Transfer |
Specify whether to transfer, or convert, only the selected soft commitment to a hard booking, or whether to convert all soft bookings to hard bookings:

Worker ID |
The identification number of the selected worker. |
Worker name |
The name of the worker. |
Availability in % |
The availability status of the worker, as a percentage. This percentage is calculated as Worker’s available capacity/Effort hours required. |
Skill fit in % |
The match, as a percentage, between the skills that are required for a project and the attributes of the worker. |
Cost price |
The hourly cost price that has been specified for the worker. |
Worker type |
The type of worker, such as employee or contractor. Note This control is not available if Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2 or AX 2012 R3 is installed. |
Working calendar |
The type of calendar that is used for the project, such as 24-hour calendar or warehouse calendar. Note This control is not available if Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2 or AX 2012 R3 is installed. |
Weekday |
The day of the week for the selected assignment detail line. |
Assignment date |
The date of the selected assignment. |
Availability status |
A value that indicates whether the selected worker is available on a particular assignment date. |
Available capacity in hours |
The number of hours that the worker can be assigned to work on the project on the selected day. |
Hard-booked hours |
The number of hours for which the selected worker is hard booked on the selected day. |
Soft-booked hours |
The number of hours that the worker is tentatively assigned to the project on the selected day. |
Hour entry |
Enter the number of hours for which to hard-book or soft-book the worker on the selected date. –or– Leave the field blank to hard-book or soft-book the total number of hours in the Available capacity in hours field for the selected date. |
