Transfer fixed assets (form)

How you open this form depends on what version of Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 you are using.

  • In AX 2012 R3 and cumulative update 7 or later for AX 2012 R2:

    Click Fixed assets > Common > Fixed assets > Fixed assets. Select one or more fixed assets to transfer between financial dimensions. On the Action Pane, click Transfer fixed assets.

    For information about how to transfer large numbers of assets, see Transfer fixed assets.

  • In earlier versions of Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012:

    Click Fixed assets > Common > Fixed assets > Fixed assets. Select or double-click a single fixed asset to transfer between financial dimensions. On the Action Pane, click Transfer fixed asset.

Note

This topic includes information about features that were added or changed for cumulative update 7 or later for Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2. This information also applies to AX 2012 R3. For more information, see the section later in this topic.

Use this form to transfer the financial information for a fixed asset when the ownership of or the responsibility for that asset changes within the same legal entity. A transfer involves changing the financial dimension values for one or more of the value models that are associated with the asset. Therefore, although it is generally referred to transferring a fixed asset, it is more accurate to say that you’re transferring the value models that are associated with the fixed asset.

Open the Fixed asset transfer history form, in which you can view the details of previous transfers for the selected fixed asset.

The posting layer that is selected for the value model:

  • Current

  • Operations

  • Tax

The posting layer is selected for the value models in the Value models form. For more information, see Set up value models. For information about posting layers, see Posting layer.

Value at transfer

The current value of the fixed asset.

Transfer date

Enter the date to use for the accounting transactions that are related to the transfer. You can enter any date in the current fiscal year.

Transfer to financial dimensions

Enter the values that the financial dimensions will have after the transfer is completed.

Warning

The complete set of financial dimension values is changed when a transfer occurs. For example, suppose that your value models have a value for CostCenter, Division, and Department, and that your account structure allows blank values for Division and Department. If you enter a value for CostCenter and leave Division and Department blank, the transfer results in each value model having the new value for CostCenter and a blank value for Division and Department.

Transfer to account

Select the main accounts in the general ledger. The account that you transfer the fixed asset from will have a debit entry to balance against the credit entry in the account that you transfer the asset to. The two accounts must balance if the Require the dimension to be balanced check box is selected for the dimensions in the Financial dimensions form.

This control is available only if the Public Sector configuration key is selected.

Transfer comments

Enter any comments about the transfer.

Transfer from financial dimensions

The set of financial dimensions that is assigned to the selected value model and the values that are assigned to those financial dimensions before the transfer.

Fixed asset number

The fixed asset number, which can be allocated manually or automatically, depending on the setup of Fixed assets or the fixed asset group. For more information, see Set up number sequences for Fixed assets or Fixed asset records.

Value model

The value model that is specified for the fixed asset.

Posting layer

The posting layer that is selected for the value model:

  • Current

  • Operations

  • Tax

The posting layer is selected for the value models in the Value models form. For more information, see Set up value models. For information about posting layers, see Posting layer.

Value at transfer

The current value of the fixed asset.

Transfer from financial dimensions

The set of financial dimensions that is assigned to the selected value model and the values that are assigned to those financial dimensions before the transfer.

Transfer to financial dimensions

Enter the values that the financial dimensions will have after the transfer is completed.

Warning
