Create, modify, and delete employee goals

Use the Performance goals page to create and update your goals. You can also use this page to enter new goal comments or update the status and activity progress of your goals.

Depending on your permissions, you might be able to maintain only your goals or you might be able to maintain goals for the employees who report to you.

Depending on your role or the privileges that are assigned to you, you might need to go to your Employee services site before you complete the procedures in this topic.

Create goals

  1. If you are an employee creating your own goals, click Personal information on the top link bar, and then click Performance goals on the Quick Launch. The Performance goals page is displayed, where you can view a list of your goals. Go to step 4.

    If you are a manager creating goals for an employee, click Team on the top link bar, and then click My employees on the Quick Launch. The My employees page is displayed, where you can view a list of the employees who report to you.

  2. Select the employee who you want to create a goal for.

  3. On the Action Pane, click Performance goals.

  4. On the Action Pane, click Goal.

  5. Enter the goal name and description. The goal name cannot be changed after you save the goal.

  6. Select a goal type and a goal heading for the goal. Use goal types and headings to categorize your goals. The information that you enter in the Goal type field cannot be changed after you save the goal.

  7. Enter a number in the Weight field to indicate the importance of the goal.

  8. Select the status of the goal.

  9. Select the status of the goal in the approval process. For example, if the goal is ready to be approved, select Waiting for approval.

  10. Enter the start date and end date for the goal.

  11. If the goal already has been reached, enter the date when it was reached in the Date finished field.

  12. In the Resource estimates field group, enter the estimated costs and resources that are required to achieve the goal.

  13. In the Resource costs field group, enter the actual costs and resources that were used to achieve the goal.

  14. Click OK.

  15. If the goal type that you selected has one or more user-defined fields associated with it, additional fields might be displayed. Enter the additional information and then click Finish.

View goals

  1. If you are an employee who wants to view your own goal, click Personal information on the top link bar, and then click Performance goals on the Quick Launch. The Performance goals page is displayed, where you can view a list of your goals. Go to step 4.

    If you are a manager who wants to view an employee’s goal, click Team on the top link bar, and then click My employees on the Quick Launch. The My employees page is displayed, where you can view a list of the employees who report to you.

  2. Select the employee whose goal you want to view.

  3. On the Action Pane, click Performance goals. The Performance goals page is displayed, where you can view a list of goals for the selected employee.

  4. Click the Goal link to view information about the goal.

Goal activities

A goal might be divided up into several activities that must be completed before you can complete the goal. After you create a goal, you can specify the activities to associate with the goal and then track the status of those activities. For more information, see Add, modify, and remove goal activities.

Goal comments

You can add a comment to a goal to provide additional information about the goal. After a goal is created, you cannot modify the goal or the goal type, which helps to ensure that the information in the goal remains consistent. However, you can add a comment to a goal to indicate that the goal has changed. For more information, see Add and remove goal comments.

Modify a goal

  1. If you are an employee who wants to modify or delete your own goal, click Personal information on the top link bar, and then click Performance goals on the Quick Launch. The Performance goals page is displayed, where you can view a list of your goals. Go to step 4.

    If you are a manager who wants to modify or delete an employee’s goal, click Team on the top link bar, and then click My employees on the Quick Launch. The My employees page is displayed, where you can view a list of the employees who report to you.

  2. Select the employee whose goal you want to modify or delete.

  3. On the Action Pane, click Performance goals. The Performance goals page is displayed, where you can view a list of goals for the selected employee.

  4. Select a goal and then click Edit.

  5. Modify the necessary information and then click Save and close.
