Info codes (form) (Retail)

Click Retail > Setup > Info codes.

Use this form to set up info codes. You can use info codes to capture data at the point of sale when a cashier performs various actions, such as an item sale, item return, or customer selection.

Note

In versions of Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 prior to AX 2012 R3, info codes in Retail were called reason codes. This topic refers to info codes, but the information also pertains to Retail reason codes in earlier versions of AX 2012, unless otherwise indicated.

Open the Info code transactions form, where you can view a list of transactions in which the info code was prompted.

Translations

Open the Text translation form to enter the translated text for info codes in additional languages. The translated text will be displayed on the register at the point of sale.

This control is available only if Retail in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3 is installed.

Fields

Field

Description

Info code number

A unique identifier for the info code.

Prompt

The text that is displayed on the point of sale (POS) register to prompt the cashier to enter an info code.

Input type

Select the type of input that the cashier must enter to respond to the prompt. Input types are used to validate the data that the cashier enters. Select from the following options:

  • None – The cashier enters text in a text box. The cashier can enter any text in the text box. Alternatively, the cashier can leave the text box empty. In this case, when the transaction is saved, the info code record is blank.

  • Subcode list – The cashier calls a function by selecting it in a list. The functions are defined in the Trigger function column in the Information subcodes form. Select this option if there are more than five prompts and calls.

  • Date – The cashier enters a date. The date must be entered in the format MM/DD/YY.

  • Numeric – The cashier enters numeric data. The value is not displayed at the point of sale but is saved in the database. The value attaches a number to an item that is sold at the point of sale.

  • Product – The cashier selects a retail product in a list that is displayed at the point of sale. The selected product is not displayed at the point of sale but is stored in the database.

  • Customer – The cashier selects a retail customer in a list that is displayed at the point of sale. The selected customer is not displayed at the point of sale but is stored in the database as information for that record.

  • Staff – The cashier enters his or her operator ID. The operator ID is not displayed but is stored in the database.

  • Text – The cashier enters informational text.

  • Subcode buttons – The cashier calls a function by clicking a button. The functions are defined in the Trigger function column in the Information subcodes form. Select this option if there are five or fewer prompts and calls.

  • Age limit – The cashier enters an integer that represents the minimum age that a customer must be to purchase a product.

Linked info code

An associated info code that is used when two info codes are required for a product.

In Retail in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3, you can link an info code to either another info code or an info code group.

Minimum value

The minimum amount that can be entered for the info code.

Maximum value

The maximum amount that can be entered for the info code.

Minimum length

The minimum number of characters that can be entered for the info code.

Maximum length

The maximum number of characters that can be entered for the info code.

Frequency percent

Enter the frequency with which the info code is displayed.

Use for counting

Select this check box if the info code can be used for inventory counting.

Print prompt on receipt

Select this check box to print the text of the prompt on the receipt.

Print input on receipt

Select this check box to print the response to the prompt on the receipt.

Print input name on receipt

Print the name of the input type on the receipt.
