Updated: August 23, 2012

Applies To: Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2

Click Budgeting > Setup > Budget planning > Budget planning process.

Use this form to configure the budget planning processes for your organization. For each budget planning process that you create, you can select the organization hierarchy to use, and then assign budget planning workflows to the organizations in the hierarchy. You can configure the attributes for the budget planning stages. For example, you can specify whether users can associate budget plans to parent budget plans, and whether users can add or modify lines during a budget planning stage. You can also select the budget plan priorities to use in the budget planning process. For more information, see Budget planning configuration (form) and About budget planning configuration and setup.

The following table provides descriptions for the controls in this form.

Header

Budget planning process

The identifier for the budget planning process.

Description

Optional: A brief description of the budget planning process.

State

The current state of the budget planning process. The following states are used:

  • Draft – The budget planning process is not active or completed. This is the default state for new budget planning processes. When the budget planning process is in a Draft state, users can configure the settings to include in the budget planning process.

  • In process – The budget planning process is active but not completed. If settings for the budget planning process are changed after the budget planning process is activated, the changes apply only to new budget plans in the budget planning process.

  • Completed – The budget planning process is approved. The settings for the budget planning process cannot be changed, and new budget plans cannot be created for the budget planning process.

Budget cycle

The budget cycle that is associated with the budget planning process.

Ledger

The ledger to use for the budget planning process.

Template folder

The justification file and attachment folder to use with the budget planning process. For more information about templates, see Create budget plan templates manually.

Budget planning process administration

Select the organization hierarchy to use for the budget planning process. Then, for each responsibility center in the list, select the budget planning workflow to use.

To assign or change the budget planning workflow for similar responsibility centers, click Assign workflow. Then select the organization type to target and the budget planning workflow to use.

Example

You want to use the Department workflow budget planning workflow for all the Department responsibility centers. Click Assign workflow. Select Department in the Organization type field, and then select Department workflow in the Budget planning workflow field.

Budget planning stage rules and templates

Select a budget planning workflow in the list of workflows. Then, for each budget planning stage, select the stage rules. For the stage rules, you can select whether users can associate budget plans during a stage, and whether users can add or modify budget plan lines during a stage. For more information, see “Budget planning stage rules and scenario constraints” in About budget planning configuration and setup. If you change the stage rules for an active budget planning process, the changes apply only to new budget plans.

After you select the stage rules, select the budget plan worksheet template to use for each budget plan stage.

Budget plan priority constraints

Specify the budget plan priorities that can be assigned to budget plans in the budget planning process. The budget plan priorities in the Selected priorities list can be assigned to budget plans, and the budget plan priorities in the Remaining priorities list cannot be assigned to budget plans. Click << Add or Remove >> to move budget plan priorities between the two lists.
