Event ID 1029 — Windows Installer System Restart

Applies To: Windows Server 2008

Microsoft Windows Installer can determine when a restart of the computer is necessary and automatically prompt the user to restart it immediately after an application has been installed. This usually occurs if the installer needs to replace any files that are in use during the installation.

Restart Windows

To restart Windows:

  1. Click Start, click the arrow to the right of the lock icon, and then click Restart.
  2. If you did not anticipate having to restart the computer, clear the Planned check box.
  3. In the drop-down list, select the appropriate reason for the restart, and then click OK.

Note: You can also restart your computer and document the reason from the command line, by typing shutdown /r. For help with using the shutdown command, type shutdown /? at an elevated command prompt.
