View and Modify Volume Properties

Applies To: Windows Server 2008

You can use Share and Storage Management to view and modify volume settings, and to perform maintenance tasks like defragmenting, error checking, and backing up a volume.

Membership in Administrators, or equivalent, is the minimum required to complete this procedure. Review details about using the appropriate accounts and group memberships at https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=83477.

To view or modify the properties of a volume

  1. On the Volumes tab, click the volume for which you want to view or modify properties.

  2. In the Actions pane, click Properties.

  3. Modify settings, as appropriate, and then click OK.

    -Or-

    On the Tools tab, select the volume maintenance action that you want to perform.

Additional considerations

  • To open Share and Storage Management, click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Share and Storage Management.
