Add a value to a registry key entry

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

To add a value to a registry key entry

  1. Open Registry Editor.

  2. Click the key or entry where you want to add the new value.

  3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click the type of value you want to add: String Value, Binary Value, DWORD Value, Multi-String Value, or Expandable String Value.

  4. Type a name for the new value, and then press ENTER.

Caution

  • Incorrectly editing the registry may severely damage your system. Before making changes to the registry, you should back up any valued data on your computer.

Notes

  • To open Registry Editor, click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.

  • If you make a mistake that results in your computer not starting properly, you can restore the registry. For instructions on how to restore the registry, see Related Topics.

  • When you add a value, the value name and data type are saved with a default value. For instructions on how to modify the default value, see Related Topics.
