Why do I need to verify the clock and time zone settings?

The correct time zone and system clock settings must be set during the installation to ensure that you do not have connectivity issues after the installation finishes.

The root certificate is created during the installation, and it uses the default time zone if you do not change the time zone. Changing the time zone after the installation is complete does not change the time stamp on the root certificate. If you change the time zone after the installation is complete, the root certificate is not valid for the hours between the default time zone and the new time zone.

You will encounter the following issues:

  • The Internet Address Management Wizard cannot create a leaf certificate if the time stamp on the root certificate is older than the current time.

  • Users cannot log on by using Remote Web Workplace or Terminal Services Gateway during the time between the default time zone and the new time zone.

These settings also affect the domain controller replication during the migration. If you add a replica domain controller by using a second server running the Windows SBS 2008 Premium Edition, Windows NT File Replication Service (NTFRS) does not function properly. This prevents Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) from replicating until the time stamp on the Windows SBS 2008 SYSVOL files is older than the current time.
