Profile

Use this wizard page to specify to which profile this firewall rule will be applied.

Domain

This rule will be applied only to the domain profile. The domain profile is applied when a computer is connected to a network in which the computer's domain account resides.

Private

This firewall rule will be applied only to the private profile. The private profile is applied when a computer is connected to a network in which the computer's domain account does not reside, such as a public network like the Internet. The private profile settings should be more restrictive than the domain profile settings.

Public

This firewall rule will be applied only to the public profile. The public profile is applied when a computer is connected to a domain through a public network, such as those available in airports and coffee shops. The public profile settings should be the most restrictive because the computer is connected to a public network where the security cannot be a tightly controlled as it is in an IT environment.

Adjusting these settings after creating a rule

You can also adjust these settings in the Firewall Rule Properties dialog box in the Inbound Rules and Outbound Rules nodes. To change the profile, use the Advanced tab.
