Assessing the status of virus and other malware protection

The list view on the Security tab in the Windows SBS Console displays information about the security components that are installed on your server. Click a security component to select it. Summary information related to that component is displayed in the details pane.

If there are issues on your network, you can view a summary that lists all of the computers on your network, the installed Windows SBSĀ 2008 software and applications, and the status of the antivirus, anti-spyware, and anti-malware software.

To view a summary of installed malware protection for network computers

  1. Open the Windows SBS Console.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • To view a summary report of the virus protection software that is installed on each computer on your network, click View summary of virus protection for file system.

    • To view a summary report of the malware protection software that is installed on each computer on your network, click View summary of spyware and malware protection.

Assessing the status of virus protection software for the file system

Status

Description

OK

Virus protection software is installed on all client computers, it is enabled, and it is up-to-date.

Warning

  • Security Center is reporting an authentication failure.

  • The following may be true for the installed virus protection solution:

    • Signatures are not up-to-date.

    • The virus protection software scanning is not enabled on one or more client computers.

Critical

One or more client computers do not have antivirus software installed.

Assessing the status of spyware and other malware protection

Status

Description

OK

At least one malware protection solution is installed, enabled, and up-to-date.

Warning

  • Security Center is reporting an authentication failure

  • The following may be true for the installed malware protection solution:

    • Signatures are not up-to-date.

    • The malware protection software is not enabled on one or more client computers.

Critical

One or more client computers do not have malware protection software installed.
