After you install the latest update of the User State Migration Tool (USMT) 4.0, you can use it to migrate Microsoft Office 2003 and Microsoft Office 2007 settings to Microsoft Office 2010. You can also use it to move the settings between Office 2010 computers.

Using USMT 4.0 to migrate to Office 2010

USMT 4.0 is a tool that you can use to migrate user data and settings. It is included in the Windows Automated Installation Kit (Windows AIK). For more information about USMT 4.0, see User State Migration Tool 4.0 User's Guide (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkID=140373).

An update is available for USMT 4.0. It enables support for migration to Office 2010. The update includes a new migapp.xml file that has XML rules that support migrating Office 2010 application settings. After you install USMT 4.0, you must install the update to be able to use USMT 4.0 to migrate Office settings. The update is required if either the source or destination computer is running Office 2010. For information about downloading and installing the USMT 4.0 update, see Information about the User State Migration Tool (USMT) 4.0 update (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkId=210223).

For a list of user registry settings that you can migrate, see Benutzerregistrierungseinstellungen für die Migration zu Office 2010.

Office setup and migration considerations

Because of the way that user settings are stored in the registry, USMT 4.0 can only migrate Office settings from an x64-based installation of Office to an x64-based installation of Office, or from an x86-based installation of Office to an x86-based installation of Office. Additionally, USMT 4.0 cannot migrate the Microsoft Word settings in the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\Microsoft\Office\<OfficeVersion>\Word\Data

USMT does not support migrating settings to a version of Office that is earlier than the version that is currently installed on the source computer. For example, USMT 4.0 cannot migrate settings from an Office 2007 installation to an Office 2003 installation.

Wichtig

To migrate application settings by using USMT 4.0, install applications on the destination computer before you run the LoadState command. For Office installations, you must run the LoadState command to apply settings before you start Office on the destination computer for the first time. If you start Office for a user before you run the LoadState command, many settings of Office will not migrate correctly.
