This section provides instructions for resolving issues with installation.
End Snap-in Window Is Displaying After Installation of Device Manager 2011 Server
The End Snap-in window, which displays after you install Device Manager 2011 server, specifies that the snap-in is not responding. If you click End Now in the window, the Configuration Manager console will close and you will lose any unsaved data. If you click Cancel, you can return to Configuration Manager console. Selecting Cancel is recommended.
Configuration Manager Console Stops Responding When Installing, Upgrading, or Uninstalling Device Manager 2011 Server
Make sure the Configuration Manager console is closed before you install, upgrade, or uninstall Device Manager 2011 server.
Configuration Manager Console Might Stop Responding
Configuration Manager console stops responding if you have all three of the following conditions:
- You install only the Configuration Manager Console Add-in component during the Device Manager 2011 server installation.
- You connect Configuration Manager console to a site server that either does not have Device Manager 2011 installed or does not have the Common Components service running.
- You click configuration items in Device Configuration in the Configuration Manager console.
Device Manager 2011 Stops Responding When You Select the Property Page of a Configuration Item Created With Device Manager 2011 SP1 on a Site Server Running Device Manager 2011 With No Service Packs
Configuration items created by using Device Manager 2011 Service Pack 1 (SP1) become unusable after you uninstall Device Manager 2011 SP1 and reinstall Device Manager 2011 with no service packs. Delete all configuration items created by using Device Manager 2011 SP1 and create new configuration items by using Device Manager 2011 with no service packs.
Device Running Device Manager 2011 Client Does Not Have a Log File
You cannot recreate the Device Manager 2011 EDMState.log or EDMState.dat files after you delete them. To recreate these files, you must reinstall Device Manager 2011 client on the device.
Incorrect Error Message Displayed When Upgrading to Device Manager 2011 SP1
If you upgrade to Device Manager 2011 Service Pack 1 (SP1) on a site server that is not running Device Manager 2011, the upgrade server setup displays an incorrect message "UNC PATHS ARE NOT SUPPORTED." The message should display "Device Manager 2011 is not installed, unable to proceed with upgrade installation." You can only upgrade to Device Manager 2011 SP1 on a site server that is running Device Manager 2011 with no service packs.
Advertisements Are Not Associated with New Collections
If you uninstall Device Manager 2011 server upgrade and install Device Manager 2011 server or if you upgrade Device Manager 2011 server, collections will be recreated with different IDs. If you want to advertise configuration packages to the new collections, you must create advertisements and associate them with the new collections. For more information about creating an advertisement, see Configuration Package Advertisements.
Cannot Repair or Change Device Manager 2011
If you need to repair or change files installed with Device Manager 2011, uninstall and re-install Device Manager 2011.
Device Manager 2011 UI Text Does Not Display in a New Language After Installing a Language Pack
If you install a new language pack, it must match the language that you selected when you installed Device Manager 2011. If you want to change the language, you must uninstall and re-install Device Manager 2011 with the desired language. You can currently install Device Manager 2011 with the following languages: Chinese, English, French, German, Japanese, and Russian.
