    Click-to-Run is a streaming and virtualization technology that is designed to significantly reduce the time that is required to download and use Office client products. Streaming allows users to begin to use a Click-to-Run product before the complete product is downloaded. Click-to-Run for Office 365 products are based on core virtualization and streaming Microsoft Application Virtualization (App-V) technologies. Click-to-Run resources run in an isolated virtual environment on the local operating system.

    The Office 2013 release provides a downloadable Office Deployment Tool for Click-to-Run that allows administrators to download Click-to-Run product and language sources to an on-premises location. This is useful in scenarios where administrators want to minimize the demand on the network or to prevent users from installing products from the Internet because of corporate security requirements.

    This download includes Group Policy Administrative Template files and Office Customization Tool files for use with Office 2013 applications. For administrative template files, you may use the combination of ADMX and language-specific ADML files on computers running at least Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008.

    Deploy Office Web Apps Server on-premises for use by SharePoint 2013, Lync Server 2013, and Exchange Server 2013. To deploy Office Web Apps Server, you install prerequisite software, server roles, services, and features, and then install Office Web Apps Server. Next, you use Windows PowerShell to configure the Office Web Apps Server farm.

    When used with SharePoint 2013 on-premises, Office Web Apps provides updated versions of Word Web App, Excel Web App, PowerPoint Web App, and OneNote Web App. Users can view and optionally edit Office documents by using a supported web browser on computers and on different mobile devices, such as Windows Phones, iPhones, and iPads. In addition to new features in Office Web Apps, the architecture and deployment methods have also changed, which allow Office Web Apps to provide viewing functionality for Exchange Server 2013 and Lync Server 2013.
