What Are Discount Eligibility Requirements?

Discount eligibility requirements specify advanced ways to determine when a discount applies. The more straightforward ways are to use start and end dates, or condition or award products. Eligibility requirements are expressions based on targeting profiles. If the expression evaluates to "True", the discount may be applied according to the discount definition. For example, the expression may specify "Users Default Language is English", so apply the discount according to the discount definition.

You create eligibility requirements in Commerce Server 2009 by using context properties, such as User Object, Targeting Context, and evaluator-intrinsics (current date, current time). By creating an expression, you can target the customers and/or products that will receive the discount. For example, you can target customers who like music, and offer them a 20 percent discount off a jazz CD. For information about how to create target expressions, see  How to Create a Target Expression.
