Web Usage Reports

You use the Report Manager to run reports to analyze site usage, referring URLs, and requests for data.

Activity by Browser

Use the Activity by Browser report to review activity by types of browsers used to access the Web site. You use information from this report to examine browser technology trends, which is something to consider for Web development.

The following table lists the measures and database columns that this report uses.

Measure

Description

Visits

The number of closed visits in which the user used a particular browser during the report period. A visit is an arbitrary value, based on the time a user spends on a Web site. By default, a visit is 30 minutes.

Description

Agent Browser Category

The type of Web browser that the user used to view the Web site.

Agent Version

The version of the Web browser that the user used to view the Web site.

Operating System

The operating system that the user used when visiting the site.

User Agent

The user-agent string from the Web log file.

Date

The date on which a user visited the site.

Site

The site that the user visited.

Note

Your system administrator can use the CSDW_MakeUserAgentDate stored procedure to add operating systems to the Operating System dimension.

Directories

Use the Directories report to determine which of the 1,000 Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) directory levels are the most visited. This report shows activity for the first six levels of URI directories.

If you want to see URIs that provide information other than the 1,000 most active URIs, such as the least active URIs, ask the system administrator to modify the CSDW_MakeAggRequestsByUri stored procedure in the site database.

Hit Count

The total number of hits that occurred during the report period.

The date on which a hit occurred.

Directory Level

The directory level that corresponds to the site. (Commerce Server 2009 supports up to six levels.)

Is Request

Whether the hit was a request (for example, for the delivery of an ad).

Site

The site on which a hit occurred.

Entry Path Analysis

Use the Entry Path Analysis report to determine the entry paths most frequently used to reach your site. This report show the top six levels of path directories.

Note

The Entry Path Analysis report performs intensive analysis of how users traversed your site, and it can take a long time to be completed.

URI 1

The URI for the first path to a page in the Web site that a user visited. (Commerce Server 2009 supports recording up to six levels.)

URI 2

The URI for the second path to a page in the Web site that a user visited. (Commerce Server 2009 supports recording up to six.)

URI 3

The URI for the third path to a page in the Web site that a user visited. (Commerce Server 2009 supports recording up to six.)

URI 4

The URI for the fourth path to a page in the Web site that a user visited. (Commerce Server 2009 supports recording up to six.)

URI 5

The URI for the fifth path to a page in the Web site that a user visited. (Commerce Server 2009 supports recording up to six.)

URI 6

The URI for the sixth path to a page in the Web site that a user visited. (Commerce Server 2009 supports recording up to six.)

Top Referring Domains by Requests

Use the Top Referring Domains by Requests report to review the sites from which users access your site. This report shows a list of the most active referring domains by number of requests.

Requests %

The percent of requests calculated from the current request count divided by the total request count of all referrer domain names.

Requests Count

The total number of requests that occurred during the report period.

Referrer Domain Name

The domain from which a user came to the site.

Site

The site that the user visited.

Top Requested Pages

Use the Top Requested Pages report to review the pages most requested on your site. Review a list of the 1,000 most active pages, including query strings, by number of requests.

This report provides statistics per page. This differs from the Directories report, which provides statistics for all pages in a URL directory.

Note

Even though the top 1,000 pages will always be included in a report, other pages can also be included. This is because the URI dimension includes the top 1,000 entry pages, exit pages, and most requested pages for every site. If you want to see more than the 1,000 most active pages, such as the least active pages, ask the system administrator to modify the CSDW_MakeAggRequestsByUri stored procedure in the Data Warehouse.

Use the Usage Summary by Day of Week report to review the average number of page requests and average user visits by day of week.

The average number of requests per day (the total number of requests divided by the number of days in the report period) that occurred during the report period.

Avg Visits Per Day

The average number of visits per day (the total number of requests divided by the number of days in the report period) that occurred during the report period. A visit is an arbitrary value, based on the time a user spends on a Web site. By default, a visit is 30 minutes.

Usage Summary by Week of Year

Use the Usage Summary by Week of Year report to view a pivot chart that displays the average number of page requests and average user visits per week of the year.

Note

For years that start on a Saturday, the Week of Year dimension returns week 53 for the last week.

The week of the year that a visit or request occurred.

Use the Usage Trends report to review summary details of daily page requests, distinct users and visits. This report provides a line chart with the number of request for the last six months together with the monthly request. It includes year, quarter, and month of each request; the distinct users; and the number of visits.

The number of requests that each user made when visiting the site.

Distinct Users

A user distinguished as unique during the period of the report. Commerce Server 2009 counts the user as a unique user only one time.

The type of user who visited the site, such as a registered user or an anonymous user.
