2/16/2009

This topic describes the Windows Embedded POSReady 2009 feature areas that are updated.

Updated Feature Areas

The following section describes new features in POSReady.

Add or Remove Optional Components

POSReady now supports adding and removing optional components after initial installation, including language collections. Previously, Windows Embedded for Point of Service only supported a one-time initial configuration of optional components during Setup.

Installation Media

POSReady core operating system (OS) files, Multilingual User Interface Packs (MUI), Companion Applications, product documentation, and more are all included on a single installation DVD instead of multiple CDs.

Companion Applications

The companion applications available on the POSReady DVD include the following:

  • .NET Framework 3.5
  • Silverlight
  • SQL Express
  • IIS Lockdown Tool
  • Windows Defender

POSReady Setup

The following features were added to POSReady Setup:

  • Customizable page file settings
  • Three installation types: Typical, Minimum, and Custom
  • New graphical user interface (GUI) to simplify Setup
  • Language collections

USB Installation

POSReady now supports installing to and from USB devices.

POS for .NET v. 1.12

POSReady includes POS for .NET v. 1.12, an updated version of the Microsoft class library for POS devices.

Windows PE 2005

POSReady now uses Windows Preinstallation Environment 2005 (Windows PE 2005) instead of Windows PE 2003 that was used in earlier versions of Windows Embedded for Point of Service. Windows PE 2005 offers new features such as installing from a USB flash drive.

Windows XP Service Pack 3

POSReady includes all the security, driver, and feature updates of Windows XP Service Pack 3 that apply to POSReady.
