What suggestions will I see?

When you connect your Microsoft and Facebook accounts to Bing, we can give you personalized suggestions for things you might like in Local Scout, Music + Videos, the Windows Phone Store, and Search.

What happens when I connect my Microsoft and Facebook accounts to Bing?

If you connect your Microsoft account to Microsoft Bing, we’ll be able to get a sense of your tastes and preferences based on the things you do on your handheld or in other places where you sign in with the same Microsoft account, like Xbox Music or Bing. For example, if you often search for pizza places (whenever you’ve signed in to Bing), we can suggest ones in Local Scout that are nearby, or that are offering a deal. Or if you get directions several times to the same venue, we can suggest upcoming events at that venue.

If you also connect your Facebook account, we can factor in the things that you or your friends have liked and places where you or your friends have checked in. For example, if six of your friends like a particular singer on Facebook, we can suggest a nearby venue if that singer will be playing there, or recommend that you check out that singer’s music in Music + Videos.

Will Facebook use my Microsoft account information?

Nope. We won’t post anything to your Facebook wall or share your information with anyone (including Facebook).

How will Microsoft use my location?

We only note where you are so we can recommend things that are close by. Don’t worry, we won’t share your location with anyone else.

There are three places to see suggestions in Search: in local results, in Quick cards, and in App Connect.

  • Local results. To see local results, search for something, and then flick to Local. You’ll be able to see if something is popular, or if you connect Facebook, you'll see if any of your friends like something that comes up.

  • Quick cards. If a search turns up a quick result, tap it, and then flick to Buzz to see suggestions. For example, searching for a movie might bring up movie times that appear before web search results. If you connect Facebook, we’ll also show you if your friends have liked or reviewed anything.

  • App Connect. With suggestions turned on, we'll show you popular apps related to your search. If you connect Facebook, we'll also show apps related to your search that your friends have liked, or that are similar.
