Creating Site Terms in the Profiles Resource

You can use the Profiles resource to add new site terms to Commerce Server. You can also perform this task using the Site Terms Editor module in Commerce Server Business Desk. For information about adding a site term in Commerce Server Business Desk, see Adding a Site Term.

When you add a new site term to Commerce Server, you define values, called terms, for the site term. You use site terms to list specific values for a profile property. After you create a site term, you can assign it as the value of a profile property.

For example, you create a Favorite color site term with the values blue, green, and purple. Then, you define a "favorite color" profile property with the type "site term", and assign the Favorite color site term to it. When users select a color for the favorite color property, they are limited to the choices of blue, green, and purple. You use the site terms editor screen in the Profiles resource to add new site terms.

You can create site term groups to help you organize site terms in the site terms editor screen. For example, in addition to favorite color, you can create the following site terms with corresponding values and make them a site term group containing user preferences:

  • Brand (name brand, generic)
  • Quality (lowest price, best quality)
  • Purchase (online, catalog, in store)
