Step 1: Creating a direct mail campaign

  • Before you create a direct mail campaign, ensure that SQL Server Agent is running. If SQL Server Agent is not running, you will not be able to save your direct mail campaign.
  1. Open Business Desk - Retail from either the Start menu or the Desktop.

  2. In the Campaigns module, click Campaign Manager.

  3. In the Campaign Manager screen, expand Mountain Publishing, and then select the Mountain Books campaign.

  4. Click New on the toolbar, and then select New Direct Mail from the drop-down list. The Campaign Manager – Mountain Publishing – Mountain Books – New (direct mail) screen appears.

  5. In the Campaign Manager – Mountain Publishing – Mountain Books – New (direct mail) screen, in the Direct Mail Properties section, do the following:

    Use this To do this
    Direct mail name Type TargetedMail.
    Message from e-mail address Type WebMaster@AdventureWorks.com.
    Message subject Type Great camping news for our customers.
    File path or URL containing
    message body
    Type https://www.Microsoft.com.
    Mailing list Select UserProperties from the drop-down list.
    Personalize direct mail per user Clear this check box.
    Mail Format Select MHTML from the drop-down list.
  6. In the Mail Schedule section, do the following:

    Use this To do this
    Start Date Select today's date from the drop-down calendar.
    Start Time Select the next full hour after the current hour from the drop-down list.

    • Time is in 24-hour mode. Therefore, if it is currently 2:45 PM, select 1500 from the drop-down list.
    Mailing Interval Verify that One time only is displayed.
  7. In the Test section, do the following:

    Use this To do this
    Test list Select UserProperties from the drop-down list.
    Send Test Mail Click to send test mail.

    The Direct Mail message box appears, with the "Save and send test mail now?" message.

  8. In the Direct Mail dialog box, click Yes.

    The Business Desk message box appears.

  9. In the Business Desk message box, click OK.

    The test mail is sent, and the direct mail campaign is saved.

  10. To return to the Campaign Manager screen, click  back on the toolbar.

The direct mail campaign is added to the Campaign Manager module. Proceed to Step 2: Verifying that the test mail was sent.
