Pricing Rules in Custom Catalogs and Virtual Catalogs

Commerce Server 2000 supported custom catalogs. Commerce Server 2002 supports virtual catalogs, an enhanced and more flexible form of custom catalogs.

The percentage multiplier pricing rule differs between custom catalogs and virtual catalogs as follows:

  • In a custom catalog the final price = base price * pricing amount /100.
  • In a virtual catalog the final price = base price + base price * pricing amount /100.

For example, to give a 10 percent discount on a product in a custom catalog you have to set the pricing amount to 90, whereas in a virtual catalog you have to set the pricing amount to -10.

When you upgrade, the Commerce Server 2002 Upgrade tool will convert your custom catalogs to virtual catalogs. The price rules on the custom catalogs will be applied to the virtual catalogs. The contents of the virtual catalogs, including the prices in the virtual catalogs, will be the same as in the custom catalogs.

The custom catalogs will be converted to virtual catalogs when you unpackage a Commerce Server 2000 site.
