Enabling Web Servers to Authenticate Users on Other Servers

Microsoft Commerce Server 2002 requires that a Web server be able to authenticate users to access services located on other servers. You must ensure that Microsoft Windows is configured to allow such access.

  • To enable delegation, you must have sufficient administrative privileges in your Windows 2000 domain.

To enable a Web server to authenticate clients to other servers

  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Commerce Server 2002, and then click Commerce Server Manager.

  2. In the Commerce Server Manager console, expand Active Directory Users and Computers, right-click the domain node, and then click Find. Or, if you know which organizational unit the computer is in, in the console tree, right-click the organizational unit, and then click Find.

Or, you can navigate to the computer account you want to change without using the Find command, and then skip to step 9.

  3. In the Find Users, Contacts, and Groups dialog box, in the Find box, select Computers from the drop-down list.

  4. On the Computers tab, in the Name box, type the name of the computer for which you are searching.

  5. In the In box, select the domain or organizational unit you want to search from the drop-down list.

Or, to select a folder or domain in which you want to begin your search, click Browse.

  6. (Optional) In the Owner box, type the name of the person whose computer is in the domain.

  7. (Optional) In the Any box, select the role of the computer from the list. You can search for all computers on the network, computers that are workstations and servers, or computers that are domain controllers.

  8. Click Find Now.

The name of the computer you want appears in the list at the bottom of the Find Computers dialog box.

  9. Right-click the name of the computer, and then click Properties.

  10. In the <computer name> Properties dialog box, select the Trust computer for delegation option, and then click OK.
