Updating the Data Warehouse Connections

After moving the Data Warehouse to new computers, you must update the Data Warehouse connection information. There are three places where the Data Warehouse connection information needs to be updated:

  • Data Warehouse global resource
  • Analysis database
  • Data Warehouse database

  • Always check the connections in Commerce Manager, Analysis Manager, and Enterprise Manager to ensure you have set the proper connection information.
  • Always perform an IISReset after changing any passwords. This will ensure that Business Desk has not cached any connection information during the move process.

To update the Data Warehouse global resource connection strings in Commerce Manager

  1. In Commerce Server Enterprise Manager, expand Microsoft SQL Servers, expand Global Resources, right-click the Data Warehouse global resource, and then click Properties.
  2. In the Data Warehouse Properties dialog box, on the SQL Server tab, do the following:
    Use this To do this
    User ID (For SQL Server Authentication only) Type the user ID for the SQL Server Administrator.
    Password (For SQL Server Authentication only) Type the password for the SQL Server Administrator.
    Server Type the name of the computer where the Data Warehouse is now located.
    Database Type the name of the Data Warehouse database.
  3. In the Data Warehouse Properties dialog box, on the Analysis Server tab, in the Primary Analysis Server section, do the following:
    Use this To do this
    Server Type the name of the computer where the Data Warehouse is now located.
    Database Type the name of the analysis database.
  4. In the Data Warehouse Properties dialog box, on the Analysis Server tab, in the Secondary Analysis Server section, do the following:
    Use this To do this
    Server Type the name of the computer where the Data Warehouse is now located.
    Database Type the name of the analysis database.
  5. Click OK.

To update the analysis database connection information in Commerce Manager.

  1. In Commerce Server Enterprise Manager, expand Microsoft SQL Servers, expand Analysis Servers, expand a server group, expand the analysis database, expand Data Sources, right-click COMMERCE_DataWarehouse, and then click Edit.
  2. In the Data Link Properties dialog box, do the following:
    Use this To do this
    Select or enter a server name Type the server name.
    User name (For SQL Server Authentication only) Type the user ID for the SQL Server Administrator.
    Password (For SQL Server Authentication only) Type the password for the SQL Server Administrator.
    Select the database on the server From the drop-down list, select the analysis database.
  3. Click Test Connection.
  4. Click OK to close the confirmation box.
  5. In the Data Link Properties dialog box, click OK.

The analysis database is connected to the Data Warehouse in the new location.
