Moving the Data Warehouse

You might need to change your original Data Warehouse allocations. For example, your Data Warehouse has outgrown the capabilities of your current machines, or you need to reconfigure the topology to enhance the performance of the Data Warehouse.

The following steps are a brief summary of the actions you will need to take to move your Data Warehouse to new computers with little impact to the current Commerce Server setup:

  1. Ensure that no tasks are currently using or scheduled to use the Data Warehouse during the move.
  2. Decide which parts of the Data Warehouse you want to move. (For example, are you moving the Data Warehouse database only, the analysis database only, or both?)
  3. Back up the current Data Warehouse (or one of its components).
  4. Restore the backed up copy of the Data Warehouse on the new computers.
  5. Update all Data Warehouse connection strings to point to the new locations.
  6. Delete old SQL Server packages/events on the old computers that were created before the move.
  7. Perform an IISReset.
  8. Verify that you can still see your data in the Business Analytics Reports.
