Adding a Resource to a Site

To add a resource to a site, you unpack the resource from a package file.

  • Before performing this procedure, you must create a package file, or use a Solution Sites package, that contains the resource you want to add to the site. For instructions about packaging a resource and creating a package file, see Using Site Packager.
  • If you unpack the Direct Mailer resource after you unpack a Commerce Server Business Desk application and install a Business Desk client, you must restart Internet Information Services (IIS) 5.0 on the Web server hosting the Business Desk application in order Direct Mailer to be detected. Business Desk clients must re-connect to the application. For instructions about restarting IIS, see Restarting IIS and Commerce Server Services.

To add a site resource

  1. Expand Commerce Server Manager, expand Commerce Sites, and then expand the site you want to administer.

  2. Click Site Resources, right-click Site Resources, point to New, and then click Add Resource.

  3. In the Open dialog box, which contains a list of existing Site packages, select the package that contains the resource you want to add to the site, and then click Open.

    Commerce Server Site Packager starts.

  4. In the Select Resources dialog box, in the Available resources box, select the resource you want, and then click Add. The resource appears in the Resources to unpack box.

  5. Click Next.

  6. In the Global Resource Pointers dialog box, verify that the resource points to the server containing the appropriate global resource. You can create some new global resources from this screen. To do so, select Create New Global Resource when mapping the global resource pointer.

Site Packager lists the connection string properties of new global resources you are adding. It will not list the connection string properties if the resource you are adding is not a global resource pointer.

  7. In the Database Connection Strings dialog box, Site Packager lists the databases it will create and the servers on which it will create them. If you need to create a new database for your global resource, click New Database.

  8. In the SQL Server computer box, type the name of the computer that will contain the database. In the Database name box, type the name you want for the database. In the remaining boxes type the SQL Server login user name and password, and then click Create database.

  9. When you are returned to the Database Connection Strings dialog box, select a connection string, and then click Modify.

  10. In the Data Link Properties dialog box, make the necessary changes, and then click OK.

  11. Click Next.

  12. In the Unpacking is complete dialog box, review the log file of the unpacking process, and then click Finish.

The resource appears under the site in Commerce Server Manager.
