Run the Groups Pre-Population Tool

After you run the Migration ProfileBuilder tool to create the XML file, you can create the groups to which the user profiles will migrate.

To run the Groups Pre-Population tool, the server running the tool must be able to access both the Membership Directory Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) server and the Commerce Server computer.

To run the Groups Pre-Population tool

  1. In Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder that contains the Groups Pre-Population tool, and then double-click GroupMigration.exe.

  2. In the Create group structure in AD dialog box, do the following:

    Use this To do this
    Server Name Type the name of the Membership Directory server.
    Port Number Type the port number of the Membership Directory LDAP server.
    User Name Type the login name to use to connect to the LDAP server. Use the format: domain\user.
    Password Type the password for the login name.
    Groups DN Type the distinguished name of the groups object.
    Group's Schema Type the objects describing the group schemas.
    Organizational Unit Type the organizational unit under which you want to create the groups in Active Directory.
    Server Type the name of the server on which Commerce Server is installed.
    Port Type the port number for the server on which Commerce Server is installed.
    Partition Type the list of the partition(s) to be included in the Active Directory forest. Use the format: dc = <domainName>.
    Domain User Name Type the login name of an authorized Active Directory user. Use the format: domain\user.
    Password Type the password for the Domain User Name.

  - When entering the partitions, you must click **Add** to save the entry.
  1. Click Next.

  2. In the Group Attributes Map dialog box, do the following:

    Use this To do this
    Top box on left Select the Membership Directory group attribute category.
    Top box on right Type the name of your Active Directory Profile data store.
  3. In the box below Description, select a user profile attribute, and then click Map to map it to the equivalent attribute in your Active Directory Profile data store. There are two entries by default: Description and MBSTokenID. In the right column type the name of the attribute to which you want to map. Make sure the attribute name you typed exists in Active Directory with the matching data type.

  4. Click Remove to remove any attributes you do not want to map.

  5. When you are finished mapping the attributes, click Finish.

The Groups Pre-Population tool reads the groups in the Membership Directory and recreates them in the Active Directory. This creation process can take a considerable amount of time, depending upon how many groups you have.
