Preparing for Migration

Before you migrate the Membership Directory to Commerce Server, you must perform the following steps:

  1. Set Up Commerce Server Profiles. Perform this step to create the data elements and data types in the Commerce Server Profiles data store.

  2. Modify Your Migration Objects. Perform this step so your migration objects can read all of the user information, modify it as needed, and then write it to the Commerce Server Profiles store.

  3. Run the Migration ProfileBuilder Tool. Perform this step to create the Extensible Markup Language (XML) file used by the Directory Migration tool.

  4. Run the Groups Pre-Population Tool. Perform this step if you are using Windows 2000 Server Active Directory.

  5. Compile Migration Objects. Perform this step only if you have modified your migration objects.

  6. Register Migration Objects. Perform this step to register the Directory Migration tool objects. You must perform this step even if you have not modified your migration objects.
