Data Warehouse Properties, Analysis Server Tab

Use this dialog box to configure three connection strings to the Analysis Server (OLAP) database:

  • ConnStr_OLAP. This server-side connection string is provided for high availability Business Analytics configurations. You set this connection string when you unpack the Data Warehouse resource; it has Administrative privileges.

By default, any member of the Windows domain of the server where the OLAP database resides will have query (read) access to the Commerce Server 2002 OLAP cubes.

  • ConnStr_OLAP_HA. This connection string is used for accessing the OLAP database in high availability installations and staging environments. This connection string is available for your use, but it is not currently referenced by the Commerce Server Business Desk Analysis modules.

  • ConnStr_OLAP_Client. This client-side connection string is used only by the PivotTable in dynamic reports. Clients can access this connection string by viewing the source when a dynamic report renders. Consequently, this connection string uses Windows Integrated Security by default, even if you specify SQL Security in this dialog box, or when you unpack the Data Warehouse resource.

By default, any member of the Windows domain of the server where the OLAP database resides will have query (read) access to the Commerce Server 2002 OLAP cubes.

    • It is recommended that you use HTTPS and Basic Authentication in the ConnStr_OLAP_Client connection string. The user ID and password can belong to any valid Windows user on the Analysis Services computer in the form <domain>\<userID>, for example, REDMOND\SeanChai. You may want to create a new user account with permissions to query only the OLAP cubes.

For more information about these connection strings, see Data Warehouse Connection Strings.

The following tables show the options and functions available on the Analysis Server tab in the Data Warehouse Properties dialog box.

Primary Analysis Server section

Use this section to configure the ConnStr_OLAP connection string.

Use this To do this
Server Type the name of the Analysis server that contains the OLAP database used for dynamic reports.
Database Type the name of the OLAP database used for dynamic reports.

Secondary Analysis Server section

Use this section to configure the ConnStr_OLAP_HA connection string.

Use this To do this
Server Type the name of the secondary Analysis server that contains the OLAP database used for dynamic reports.
Database Type the name of the secondary OLAP database used for dynamic reports.

Client Connection section

Use this section to configure the ConnStr_OLAP_Client connection string. You can enable Business Desk users to run dynamic reports by connecting to the Analysis server (to access the OLAP database) through Internet Information Services (IIS). When you configure this connection method, the PivotTable service can tunnel through firewalls or proxy servers to the Analysis server.

For additional steps required to use this feature, see Accessing the Analysis Server Over HTTPS.

Use this To do this
Connect using HTTP Select to enable users to connect to the Analysis server through IIS.
Use SSL Select to encrypt and transmit the connection over a secure channel using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL).

This is the recommended setting.

User ID Type a valid Windows user ID in the form <domain>\<userID>, for example, REDMOND\SeanChai. You may want to create a new user account with permissions to query only the OLAP cubes.
Password Type a valid Windows password.
Server Type the name of the Analysis server.
Database Type the name of the Data Warehouse OLAP database.
