Recommended Hardware Configurations

In addition to the hardware requirements listed in the Commerce Server 2002 Installation Guide, the following table lists the recommended hardware configurations for typical Commerce Server 2002 deployments.

Server Processor RAM Hard Disk Space Network Adapters
Web server Dual 700 MHz 1 GB 12 GB 2
SQL Server Quad 500 MHz 1 GB 25 GB 2
ISA Server Single 500 MHz 512 MB 8 GB 3
Business Desk Dual 700 MHz 1 GB 12 GB 2
Active Directory Single 500 MHz 512 MB 8 GB 1

SQL Server clusters using Cluster Service should configure common external storage devices with four 9-GB SCSI hard drives as a single 25-GB RAID 5 logical drive.

A typical deployment also uses the following hardware:

  • Three hubs – one connecting the front-end network adapters on the Web servers, one connecting the back-end network adapters on the Web servers, and one connecting the servers running SQL Server and Business Desk in the database tier.
  • Three firewalls - one external firewall separating the deployment from the Internet, one internal firewall separating the Web tier from the database tier, and one additional firewall separating the database tier from your internal network.
