Navigating Business Desk

Although each module in Commerce Server Business Desk has a unique function, all the modules have been designed with similar navigational features to help you find and sort information. Once you have learned how to perform the basic tasks in one Business Desk module, you can apply that knowledge to other modules. This section describes the layout of Business Desk screens, and how to navigate from category to module to screen.

The Navigation Pane

The left side of the Commerce Server Business Desk screen is called the navigation pane. You use this pane to select categories and open modules. When you click the name of a category, it expands and the module names appear in a list below the category. Click the category name again to collapse the module names back into the category.

The position of the arrowhead to the left of the category name indicates whether the category can be expanded or collapsed. A right-pointing arrowhead indicates that you can expand the list. An arrowhead pointed down indicates that the list is already expanded.

The following figure shows the navigation pane with the Orders category expanded to show the list of modules.

When you view properties for a listed item, the navigation pane disappears from view. For example, in the previous figure, if you were to view the properties for the Code #1 – Basket, a new screen would be displayed and the navigation pane would no longer appear. You use the Back and Save and go back toolbar buttons to return to the main screen which contains the navigation pane.

The Content Pane

The right side of the Business Desk screen is called the content pane. You use the content pane to view site data and to edit information. When you click a module name in the navigation pane, the content pane is populated by a list that contains all the current information for the module.

For example, if you open the Orders category, and then click the Data Codes module name, the Data Codes – Order Status Codes screen appears in the content pane. In this screen, you can view, add, and delete the order status, country/region, and state data codes.

Toolbar Buttons

The toolbar appears across the top of the content pane and contains buttons that perform standard tasks. You click a toolbar button, for example, to add, copy, or delete an item. Each toolbar button shows a representational graphic for the action it executes. To see a description of that action, pause your mouse over a button before you click it. For a list of all the available toolbar buttons and a description of the functions that you can perform with them, see Using Toolbar Buttons.

Command buttons are labeled with the name of the command they execute. You click command buttons to perform specific tasks in the content pane. For example, you click the Select All button to select all the items in a results list.
