Setting Up Performance Counters

You use the System Monitor to set up performance counters.

To set a performance counter

  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Commerce Server, and then click Commerce Server Manager.

  2. Click System Monitor to open the performance console.

  3. In the performance console, click the plus sign (+) on the System Monitor toolbar to add performance counters to your server.

  4. In the Add Counters dialog box, do the following:

    Use this To do this
    Use local computer counters Select to specify that the selected counters be used on any computer on which the performance console is run.
    Select counters from computer Select to specify that the selected counters be used on a specific computer on the network.
    Performance object Select the performance object to which this counter applies. For example, the Predictor resource performance counters are listed under the CS2000: Marketing and Catalog performance object.
    All counters Select to include all counters for the selected performance object.
    Select counters from list Select to specify that you want to select individual counters for the selected performance object.
    All instances Select to specify that all instances for the selected counter be displayed.
    Select instances from list Select to specify that System Monitor use all instances selected from the list.
  5. As an optional step, click Explain to open a drop-down box containing descriptive data about each performance counter.

  6. Click Add to add all counters you have selected, and then click Close.

The performance counters you selected now appear and begin running in the System Monitor performance console. The following figure shows the Add Counters dialog box with CS2000: Pipelines counters exposed.
