Adding a New Data Object

You use the Profiles resource to add a data object to a data source. You select the table in the database (or the class in the LDAP source) that contains the column where you want to store the data collected for a property in a profile definition.

Before you use the Profiles resource to create a data object, you must create a data source. The Profiles resource will not modify the underlying data store. You must make any changes directly to the database or to the LDAP store.

To add a new data object

  1. Expand Commerce Server Manager, expand Global Resources, expand Profiles, expand Profile Catalog, expand Data Sources, expand the data source that you are adding a data object to, right-click Data Objects, and then click New Data Object.

  2. In the New Data Object dialog box, do the following:

    Use this To do this
Object Name Select the data object from the drop-down list that is the name of a table or an LDAP class in the underlying data store.
Display Name Type the name you want displayed for the data object. The display name can contain a maximum of 127 Unicode characters.
Description Type a description for the data object. The description can contain a maximum of 127 Unicode characters.
  3. Click OK.

The data object is saved. You can add data members to it and you can use it to map a profile definition to a database column (or an LDAP class). You must add data members with which to map profile properties.
