Exporting Profiles Schema

Exporting profile schema allows you to export the following from the Profiles resource to an .xml file:

  • Data sources
  • Data source partitions (without user names and passwords)
  • Profile definitions
  • Site terms

Data source partition connection string user names and passwords are not exported. When you import profile schema, you must recreate the connection strings for each imported data source partition.

To export profile schema

  1. Expand Commerce Server Manager, expand Global Resources, expand Profiles (<computer name_database name>), right-click Profile Catalog, and then click Export Profile Schema.
  2. In the Select a File dialog box, select the profile schema you want to export, and then click Save to save the new XML file.
  3. Click OK in the Profile Schema Export Succeeded dialog box.

The XML file is saved with the specified file name. The Profiles resource removes user names and passwords from the connection strings of the exported data source partitions. You must recreate the connection strings for each data source partition if you import the profile schema. You can open the XML file containing the exported profile schema in an editor, such as Microsoft Notepad, view it in a Web browser, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer, or import it into a Commerce Server Profiles resource.
