How to Use Scheduled Analysis (Bulk Analysis) in Package Conversion Manager

Updated: February 1, 2012

Applies To: System Center 2012 Configuration Manager

Scheduled analysis in Package Conversion Manager enables you to perform bulk analysis of packages that you have migrated from Configuration Manager 2007 to System Center 2012 Configuration Manager. The controls for the scheduled analysis are located on the Package Conversion Dashboard.

If you have only a small number of packages to analyze or you have the computing resources to perform the bulk analysis in real time, you can use the Run Now feature.

If you have a large number of packages to analyze or you do not have the computing resources to analyze all of your packages during business hours, you can use the Schedule feature to run bulk analysis when more computing resources are available.

When you use either Run Now or Schedule, scheduled analysis analyzes all of the packages in the Packages folder with a readiness status of Not Converted, as displayed in the Configuration Manager console. It does not analyze packages in any subfolders that you have created in the Packages folder.

How to run a bulk analysis in real time

  • In the Scheduled Analysis section of the Package Conversion Dashboard, click Run Now.

    The analysis runs immediately.

How to run a scheduled bulk analysis

  1. In the Scheduled Analysis section of the Package Conversion Dashboard, click Schedule

The Package Analyzer Schedule dialog box opens.

  2. Click Set Schedule.

  3. In the Date field, select the date on which you want the analysis to run.

  4. In the Time field, select the time at which you want the analysis to start running.

  5. Click OK.

The analysis will run at the date and time you specified.

How to cancel a scheduled bulk analysis

  • To cancel a scheduled bulk analysis, in the Scheduled Analysis section of the Package Conversion Dashboard, click Cancel.

Generate Reports

You can click Generate Reports, to generate an XML-formatted report file, which contains much of the information displayed in the Configuration Manager console. You can then view the XML text file off-line or share it with others.

The name of the XML file is PackageScanReport.xml, and is located in the following folder:

  • On Windows 7: C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\Temp

  • On Windows Server 2008 R2: C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\Temp\<number>

Tip

To locate the folder containing the report file, in the Windows Start menu Search box, enter %TEMP%.

To display the information in the XML report file, a sample XSLT file is provided. The XSLT file is created when you create the report. The name of the XSLT file is: PackageScanReport.xslt, and it is saved in the same folder as the report file. You can use the provided XSLT file to display the report, or modify it for your specific needs.
