InsteadOfTrigger Property

This feature will be removed in a future version of Microsoft SQL Server. Avoid using this feature in new development work, and plan to modify applications that currently use this feature.

The InsteadOfTrigger property indicates whether a trigger is an INSTEAD OF trigger.

Syntax

object
.InsteadOfTrigger

Parts

  • object
    An expression that evaluates to an object in the Applies To list

Data Type

Boolean

Modifiable

Read-only

Prototype (C/C++)

HRESULT GetInsteadOfTrigger(LPBOOL pRetVal);

Remarks

INSTEAD OF triggers are executed instead of the triggering action. INSTEAD OF triggers can also be defined on views, in which case they extend the types of updates a view can support. Each table or view can have one INSTEAD OF trigger for each triggering action (UPDATE, DELETE, and INSERT).

Note

If an application calls InsteadOfTrigger on an instance of Microsoft SQL Server version 7.0, the constant, SQLDMO_E_SQL80ONLY, and the message "This property or method requires Microsoft SQL Server 2000 or later" are returned.

Applies To:

Trigger2 Object
