Installing the .NET Framework SDK

The Microsoft .NET Framework Software Development Kit (SDK) is available for download from the Internet. The .NET Framework SDK is available as a free download at this Microsoft Web site.

Downloading the .NET Framework SDK

The .NET Framework SDK includes the tools, code samples, and documentation that a developer needs to develop applications and business solutions that use the common language runtime (CLR). For SQL Server users and application developers, CLR integration means that you can now write stored procedures, triggers, user-defined types, user-defined functions (scalar and table-valued), and user-defined aggregate functions using any .NET Framework language, including Microsoft Visual Basic and Microsoft Visual C#.

Integration with Microsoft SQL Server Books Online

After you have downloaded and installed the .NET Framework SDK, you can add it to Microsoft SQL Server Books Online and SQL Server Management Studio, which will enable direct links from Books Online to the SDK documentation, and add the SDK documentation to search results.
