SQL Server Version

If Microsoft SQL Server is installed on the computer that is running Internet Information Services (IIS), SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition Server Tools Setup will detect which version is installed. To exchange data between SQL Server Compact Edition and SQL Server, you have to install replication components (either SQL Server 2005 or SQL Server 2000 SP3 or later versions) on the computer that is running IIS. The appropriate selections and check boxes will be available to you depending on which version of SQL Server is detected.

Synchronize With SQL Server 2000

The Synchronize with SQL Server 2000 check box is automatically selected if SQL Server 2000 SP3 or SQL Server 2000 SP4 replication components are detected on the computer. You will not be able to select or clear this check box manually.

Synchronize With SQL Server 2005

The Synchronize With SQL Server check box is automatically selected if SQL Server replication components are detected on the computer. You will not be able to select or clear this check box manually.

If you do not have SQL Server replication Components installed, you cannot configure SQL Server Compact Edition for synchronization with SQL Server. For more information, see How to: Install SQL Server Replication Components.

Note   If the computer has SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2000, both the check boxes will be selected.
