New Data Source (General Page)

Use this page to set the properties of a shared data source item. You can also use this page to enable or disable the data source. With a shared data source, you can create and maintain the settings for the data source connection separately from the reports that use the data source.

Options

  • Name
Type the name of the shared data source item. A name must contain at least one alphanumeric character. It can also include spaces and some symbols. Do not use the following characters when specifying a name:

    ; ? : @ & = + , $ / * < > | " /

  • Description
Type a description of the shared data source item. In SQL Server Management Studio, this description is only visible in this page. Users who view this item through Report Manager may see this description when browsing the folder hierarchy.
  • Enable this data source for reports
Select this check box to make the shared data source available to reports, report models, and data-driven subscriptions. Clearing the check box makes the data source unavailable for data processing.
  • Hidden in list view
Select this check box to hide the item when the folder is set in list view. List view is a mode for viewing folder contents that is supported in Report Manager. You can set this option in SQL Server Management Studio to define how this item is viewed in Report Manager. For more information about view modes in Report Manager, see Contents Page (Report Manager).
