Dimension Data (Role Designer) (SSAS)

Use the Dimension Data page of Role Designer to grant or revoke access to attributes and members of database dimensions for users of the specified role.

Note

All options on this page are not available if Full control (Administrator) is selected on the General page of Role Designer.

Basic Tab Options

Select the Basic tab to modify basic security settings for attribute hierarchies in the selected dimension. The Basic tab has the following options:

  • Attribute Hierarchy
    Select the attribute hierarchy for which you want to manage member security.

    The selected attribute hierarchy appears in the attribute member display. You can use this display to view child members and allow access to members. To view child members, expand or collapse parent members. To allow access to a member for the role, select the member.

  • Select all members
    Select to grant access to all members listed in the attribute member display, and to automatically grant access to new members added to the topmost level of the attribute hierarchy.
  • Deselect all members
    Select to revoke access to all members listed in the attribute member display, and to automatically revoke access to new members added to the topmost

Advanced Tab Options

Select the Advanced tab to modify advanced security settings for individual attributes in the selected dimension. The Advanced tab has the following options:

  • Attribute
    Select the attribute for which you want to manage member security.
  • Allowed member set
    Type the Multidimensional Expressions (MDX) statement used to define the set of allowed members for the specified attribute. Click Edit MDX to open the MDX Builder dialog box in which you can edit the MDX statement. For more information, see MDX Builder Dialog Box (SSAS).
  • Denied member set
    Type the MDX statement used to define the set of denied members for the specified attribute. Click Edit MDX to open the MDX Builder dialog box in which you can edit the MDX statement. For more information, see MDX Builder Dialog Box (SSAS).
  • Default member
    Type the MDX statement used to define the default member for the specified attribute. Click Edit MDX to open the MDX Builder dialog box in which you can edit the MDX statement. For more information, see MDX Builder Dialog Box (SSAS).
  • Enable Visual Total
    Select to enable visual totals for the attribute.
  • Check
    Click to test the permissions defined on this page.
