No  Computers Near Me  in My Network Places

User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Explorer

Description

Removes the Computers Near Me icon, and the icons representing computers in the workgroup, from My Network Places and from the Map Network Driver browser window.

This policy does not prevent users from connecting to computers in their workgroup by other methods, such as typing the share name in the Run dialog box or the Map Network Drive dialog box.

Note Image Note

The Computers Near Me icon appears only on computers in a workgroup.

This policy was documented incorrectly on the Explain tab in Group Policy for Windows 2000. The Explain tab states incorrectly that this policy affects computers in a domain. The Computers Near Me icon only appears on computers in a domain if the system was upgraded from a pre-release version of Windows 2000.
