Remove URLs from search results (Office SharePoint Server 2007)

A search services administrator can exclude specific URLs from being displayed in search results. After a URL is excluded, crawl rules are created to exclude the URLs in future crawls.

Note

Read permission on the Shared Services Provider Administration site collection is the minimum required to complete this procedure.

Removing URLs from search results

Follow this procedure to remove specific URLs from search results.

Remove URLs from search results

  1. Depending on the status of your installation, complete one of the following steps to display the Server Name Mappings page.

    • If the Infrastructure Update for Microsoft Office Servers is installed, in Central Administration, on the Quick Launch, in the Shared Services Administration group, click a shared service.

      On the Shared Services Administration page, in the Search section, click Search Administration.

      In the Quick Launch, in the Queries and Results group, click Search result removal.

    • If the Infrastructure Update for Microsoft Office Servers is not installed, in Central Administration, on the Quick Launch, in the Shared Services Administration group, click a shared service.

      In the Search section, click Search settings.

      In the Crawl Settings section, click Search result removal.

  2. On the Remove URLs from Search Results page, type the fully qualified domain name of the URL that you want to remove from the search results.

  3. Click Remove Now.
