General (Analysis Server Properties Dialog Box) (Analysis Services - Multidimensional Data)

Use the General page of the Analysis Server Properties dialog box in Business Intelligence Development Studio to set the basic and advanced general properties for an instance of Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services.

Definition

Name

Displays the full path and name of the property.

Value

Type or select the value to set for the property. For a complete listing and description of available properties, see Analysis Services Configuration Properties.

NoteNote
If the value in the Value column exactly matches the value in the Current Value column, the property is considered unchanged even if you modified the value in the Value column.

Current Value

Displays the value currently in effect for the property.

NoteNote
Even after the value of the Value column is set for a property, the values of the Value and Current Value can differ until the value of the Value column takes effect. This difference in values typically occurs when you change the value for a property that requires restarting the Analysis Services service is changed, but the service has not yet been restarted.

Default Value

Displays the default value of the property.

Restart

Indicates whether changing the value of the property requires the Analysis Services service for that instance to be restarted so that the updated value can take effect. If empty, changing the value of the property does not require restarting. If set to yes, restarting is required if the value of the property is changed.

Type

Displays the data type of the values in the Value, Current Value, and Default Value columns. The following table lists the data types that are typically displayed.

Data typeDescription
boolA Boolean value. For this data type, the Value column displays a drop-down list to change the value to either True or False.
doubleA double-precision floating point value. For this data type, the Value column displays a text box to change the value.
intAn integer value. For this data type, the Value column displays a text box to change the value.
stringA string value. For this data type, the Value column displays a text box to change the value.

Units

Displays the units of measurement of the values in the Value, Current Value, and Default Value columns. The following tables lists the units that are typically displayed.

BytesThe property represents a memory or storage value measured in bytes.
FileThe property represents a full path and file name for a file.
FolderThe property represents a full path and folder name for a folder.
MBThe property represents a memory or storage value measured in megabytes.
SecThe property represents a time period measured in seconds.

Category

Displays whether the property belongs to the Basic or Advanced category. Properties in the Advanced category are not displayed unless the Show Advanced (All) Properties option is selected.

Show Advanced (All) Properties

Select to display properties in the Advanced category in the grid.

Reset default

Select to set the value of the Value column for every property displayed in the grid to the value of the Default Value column.
