How to View Performance Counters for Messaging Records Management

This topic explains how to use Performance Monitor (Perfmon.exe) to select and view performance counters for messaging records management (MRM). By using performance counters, you can monitor the managed folder assistant while it runs resource-intensive MRM processes.

Before You Begin

For a list of the performance counters for MRM, see Performance Counters for Messaging Records Management.

To perform this procedure, the account you use must be delegated the following:

  • Membership in the local Administrators group

Procedure

To use Performance Monitor to view the performance counters for MRM

  1. To start Performance Monitor, click Start, click Run and then type perfmon.

  2. Click the plus (+) button on the toolbar. The Add Counters dialog box appears.

  3. If you are performing this procedure on a local computer, click Use local computer counters. If you are performing this procedure remotely, click Select counters from computer and use the corresponding box to connect to the computer for which you want to monitor the performance.

  4. In the Performance object list, select the MSExchange Assistants or the MSExchange Managed Folder Assistant object.

  5. Click Select counters from list, and then specify one or more counters.

  6. To view the counters for all storage groups, click All instances. Or, to specify one or more storage groups, click Select instances from list.

  7. To add the counters to the System Monitor display in Performance Monitor and begin collecting the performance data, click Add.

  8. Click Close to close the Add Counters dialog box.
