Windows Azure Pack system requirements overview

To determine the system requirements for your Windows Azure Pack deployment, you must first decide what type of environment you are going to deploy. Use the table below to evaluate the requirements for both types of deployments: express and distributed.

Minimum hardware requirements

Deployment type Description # physical/ virtual machines CPUs/ machine RAM/machine Disk space/ machine
Express Test a proof-of-concept on a single physical or virtual machine. 1 1 8 GB (don't use dynamic memory) 40 GB
Distributed Install on several physical or virtual machines for production environments. 8 2 8 GB (don't use dynamic memory) 40 GB

Software requirements

Before you install any of the Windows Azure Pack components for either express or distributed deployments, you must install the following software as described in Installing Windows Azure Pack software prerequisites.

Windows Server 2016 or Windows Server 2012 R2.

Note

Support for WAP components in Windows Server 2012 was discontinued in Update Rollup 13 for Windows Azure Pack.

Additional components

Windows Server 2012 R2

  • Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack (SP) 1
  • IIS 8.5 (built in component of Windows Server 2012 R2
  • .NET Framework 4.5 Extended, with ASP.NET
  • Optionally, Microsoft Web Platform Installer 5.2

Windows Server 2016

  • Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack (SP) 1
  • Internet Information Services (IIS) 10 (built in component of Windows Server 2016)
  • .NET Framework 4.5 Extended, with ASP.NET
  • Optionally, Microsoft Web Platform Installer 5.2
