Session Outline

The ability to integrate with different systems in a heterogeneous environment is a key feature of Microsoft Windows Server 2003. This session looks at Service for UNIX (SFU) 3.5 as a key enabler to both integrate Windows with UNIX and also migrate applications to take advantage of the Windows platform. It starts with a look at key integration and migration questions, and then move on to an overview of SFU 3.5 and how it can be used to answer these questions. The session then considers the features in SFU 3.5 and how they work. Starting with interoperability, it covers Network File System (NFS) from the client side to allow clients to access UNIX files, and using a server as a gateway to allow Windows clients to access UNIX files as if they were on a Windows File Server. It also covers the migration features of SFU 3.5, looking at the shell interface, libraries, and tools available to port UNIX applications to run under Windows Server 2003 with only recompilation.
