Session Outline
In this session, we will discuss deployment features and tools for Windows Server 2008. First, we will see the new features of Windows Server 2008 that are present when we deploy the operating system. These new features include the WIM image format, Windows Deployment Services Role, and the Windows Automated Installation Kit. Then, we will look at more complex deployment strategies that will involve additional deployment tools, such as the SCCM Operating System Deployment, or OSD, feature pack. Finally, we will talk about deployment best practices.

| Demo: Using Windows Deployment Services
We will discover the capabilities of using ImageX to modify WIM files. One WIM file can contain multiple images. We can modify the files within the image without having to install the entire image onto a computer. Then, we will use Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Windows Deployment Services (WDS) to rapidly create and deploy operating system images over the network. WDS can be managed using an MMC 3.0 interface or the WDSUtil command line. Play online | Download |
| Demo: Deploying Operating Systems with SCCM
In this demonstration, we will introduce the Operating System Deployment pack for the latest version of System Management Server. We will create a capture media and use the new Task Sequencer to create more complex deployments, including adding applications, drivers, and operating system customizations to an installation. Finally, we will look briefly at System Center Configuration Manager's (SCCM) new Desired Configuration Management tool, which will help us to identify client compliance to our environment expectations. | Demo: Applying the WSD Solution Accelerator
In this demonstration, we will create a multicast transmission, reducing demands that deployment place on our network. We will then use the Windows System Image Manager, an element of the Business Desktop Deployment and Windows Server Deployment solution accelerators, to further customize deployments by adding drivers and operating system settings to an image.
