This demonstration covers some of the tools that can be used in the process of tuning an Exchange 2003 server. We will simulate workloads on Exchange, using LoadSim, and review the data generated by the simulation process. We will also see some of the built-in Windows monitoring tools that can be used to track the status of Exchange Server.
| | Demo: Configure Memory Usage Options
This demonstration reviews the Windows start-up and registry settings that control how the operating system allocates memory and how Exchange uses system resources.
| | Demo: POP3 and IMAP4 Compatibility
This demonstration reviews the settings that configure how Exchange services requests from non-MAPI clients, and set registry values to enable POP3 and IMAP4 compatibility modes.
| | Demo: MTA Configuration and Tuning
This demonstration reviews the registry settings that control the behavior of the Exchange Message Transfer Agent (MTA). We will discuss how these settings can be used to optimize performance in mixed-mode environments, and walk through the process of moving the MTA database directory to a new location.
| | Demo: Tuning Exchange Routing
This demonstration examines the Registry settings that control how Exchange handles routing changes to its internal server farm topology, and how Exchange responds to external system-busy messages.
| | Demo: SMTP Transport Configuration
This demonstration shows the process of moving the Exchange Mailroot directory to increase SMTP transport performance, and looks at the Registry setting that can be used to configure the size of the SMTP message queue.
| | Demo: Tuning Active Directory
This demonstration shows the process of indexing attributes used by Exchange in the Active Directory Global Catalog. We will also look at the Registry setting that controls how Exchange identifies and accesses Active Directory Domain Controllers.
