In this session, we will take a look at the Microsoft Virtual Server product. Virtual machine technology allows multiple operating systems to run concurrently on a single machine, which can help boost administrator productivity and save money by enabling customers to migrate legacy applications and consolidate applications on fewer servers. For those new to this environment, we will discuss what a virtual environment is and how the Server product compares to the desktop product, Microsoft Virtual PC, and when to use each solution. We will cover the installation and setup of the product from the actual server to the actual drives.
This session consists of a Windows Media presentation and demonstrations:

Demo: Configuring Microsoft Virtual Server
In this demonstration, we will see Virtual Server’s overall architecture and emulated hardware. We will also look at the Web site and interface, and see how resources are allocated for virtual machines. Finally, we will set up a virtual network.
Demo: Virtual Machine Creation and Management
In this demonstration, we will create some virtual machines. We will examine the virtual machines’ properties via the Virtual Machine Remote Console. We will also compare this console with other methods of connecting to virtual machines.
Demo: Virtual Machine Rapid Deployment and Migration
In this demonstration, we will create several virtual machines while discussing methods of rapid deployment. The process of migrating from a physical machine to a virtual machine will also be discussed.
Demo: Monitoring Status and Optimization
In this demonstration, we will look at virtual resource management. We will assign relative weights to virtual machines and review the Performance Monitor and Event Viewer log integration.
