The frequency with which the Microsoft Dynamics AX project estimate system recognizes revenue in Fixed-price projects is specified by the period type. The system uses project periods to determine the relevant transactions for the estimate. The project period that you assign to an estimate project is used to specify the estimate frequency. By default, the project period is derived from the project group.

Project periods are also used for timesheets. Periods that are used for estimates are created by using the same form that is used to create project timesheet periods.

For information about how to create periods, see Create and generate timesheet periods.
