How to View the Setting that Determines Whether Exchange Server is Authoritative

 

Before you configure your recipient policy for the SMTP mail domain that you want to share, you must determine if Exchange Server is authoritative over the domain.

Before you perform the procedure in this topic, read Deployment Scenarios for Internet Connectivity.

The following permissions are required to perform this procedure:

  • Member of the local administrators group and a member of a group that has had the Exchange Administrators role applied at the organizational level

Procedure

To view the setting that determines whether Exchange is authoritative

  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and then click System Manager.

  2. In the console tree, expand Recipients, and then click Recipient Policies.

  3. In the details pane, right-click a recipient policy, and then click Properties.

  4. Click the E-Mail Addresses (Policy) tab, select an SMTP address, and then click Edit. The SMTP Address Properties dialog box appears.

  5. If the This Exchange Organization is responsible for all mail delivery to this address check box is selected, Exchange is authoritative for the address. If the check box is cleared, Exchange is not authoritative for the address.
